footage shot by Mike Albright
This was taken at the Chelan, Washington WIM series #1 race. It was
shot at the end of the downhill run which was short, sandy, and of moderate difficulty.
At the very end of the course was a set of 31' doubles that were about 2 feet tall.
They were not very difficult to jump because you were going so fast but many riders
bailed when they didn't fully commit to the jump. Their bikes all fully compressed and
rebounded the rider forward. This web master witnessed 1 broken Femur, 1 broken collar
bone, 1 set of cracked ribs, and numerous other hard falls. After a few hard bails the lip
of the takeoff and landing were chopped down a bit which allowed the majority of the riders
a chance to ride fast through that section while maintaining the 31' distance. This footage
is of 2 unknown riders, probably in the sport class, that finished at the same time.
It showsyou the doubles and how dusty it was.
